How to Watch Knives Out Before Glass Onion Comes to Netflix
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery hits theaters in a week, and Knives Out 2 hits Netflix in a month, but can you watch the first movie there too? Yes, but it also depends on where you live. The big-budget sequel to 2019’s Knives Out will debut in theaters on November 23 and hit Netflix a month later. Rian Johnson will return to the director’s chair and Daniel Craig will reprise his role as lead actor. To jog your memory, the original movie featured actors like Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, and Jaeden Martell.
The plot was about a detective (played by Craig) trying to sort through the dark web of lies and secrets that surrounded the tragic death of a well-known mystery writer and his weird and eccentric family. Now, Netflix didn’t release the first movie, but the second did. Lionsgate, the company in charge of distributing the original film, took care of it. Only the production and distribution rights for the second and third films were purchased by Netflix.
Where can I watch Knives Out on Netflix?
Netflix has the movie streaming in multiple regions, either buying the streaming rights specifically or through existing deals with Lionsgate. Another thing to note is that the first movie is not available on the Netflix ad tier. According to Unogs, at least ten Netflix regions are streaming the movie in its entirety, including:
Argentina, Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, Slovakia, Thailand and Turkey
At the time of publication, no streaming service in the UK or US was showing the film, leaving you with only VOD options. That means you’ll have to buy the movie separately from Apple TV, Amazon, or Google Play.
Prior to the movie’s theatrical release, Netflix was still trying to get a license, and Netflix itself is important to note. “Fun fact: Netflix now desperately wants to allow the original Knives Out to air in the US when the sequel comes out in December, but Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, still stung by the loss of the franchise, isn’t. really helpful for that to happen,” Matthew Belloni said in a Puck News report in September.
