Prime Minister Fiala ready to appoint Hladik as minister after clarifying corruption case – Brno Daily

Prague/Brussels, Oct 21 (CTK) – Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) has expressed his belief that the situation around the Christian Democratic (KDU-CSL) candidate for the post of Minister of the Environment, Petr Hladik, is would clarify in a few weeks. can be appointed president in good conscience. These remarks were made at a press conference yesterday in Brussels.

The KDU-CSL national committee met on Thursday to reconsider Hladik’s appointment after police intervened at Brno City Hall on Tuesday in an investigation into the privatization of municipal apartments in Brno. Hladik was the deputy mayor of Brno in the previous city administration which recently ended, and the police also searched his office and contacted him as part of their investigations.

The KDU-CSL re-approved Hladik’s nomination on Thursday evening. Fiala said he respected their decision, but said at the press conference that he felt he could only propose Hladik’s nomination to President Milos Zeman after it was clear that Hladik was not doing under investigation and that his involvement in the case is clarified.

He said that would become clear in a few weeks. In the meantime, Deputy Prime Minister Marian Jurecka (KDU-CSL) will be the interim head of the environment ministry.

Environment Minister Anna Hubackova (KDU-CSL) resigned from her post for health reasons. She wants to leave the practice by October 31 due to planned medical treatment.

Fiala will meet with Hladik in the coming days to discuss the nomination, and next week he will have a regular meeting with the president, where the matter will be discussed further.

Jurecka said on Thursday that Hladik made everything clear to the wider KDU-CSL leadership and that he was not charged with any crime. Management said in a statement that it considers Hladik to be a competent and honest man. Jurecka said that if party members were found to have violated the law, the KDU-CSL would react very quickly.

On Tuesday, the police raided the housing office of the Brno town hall, the town halls of the municipalities of Brno-Nord and Brno-Cernovice and the sand quarry in Cernovice. The Brno City Court yesterday remanded the seven people charged in the case into custody.
